For a sex offender given a level three designation, the division shall, during the period of registration, update such photograph once each year. The division shall ascertain whether a named person reasonably appears to be a person so listed and provide the caller with the relevant information according to risk as described in subdivision six of section one hundred sixty-eight of this article.
Sex offenders have designated levels assigned to them by a Board of Examiners.
The division shall notify the sex offender by mail of the duty to appear and be photographed at the specified law enforcement agency having jurisdiction. Conviction of i an offense in any other jurisdiction which includes all of the essential elements of any such crime provided for above or ii a felony in any other jurisdiction for which the offender is required to register as a sex offender in the jurisdiction in which the conviction occurred or, iii any of the provisions of 18 U.
The three level of classification are: Level 1 offender lowest risks Level 2 offender moderate risks Level 3 offender highest risks The requirements for registration depend on the category of the offender.
A conviction of or a conviction for an attempt to commit any provisions of the preceding sections committed or attempted as a hate crime defined in section If three of the characteristics provided include ethnicity, hair color, and eye color, other identifying characteristics shall be provided.
Registered sex offenders are assigned a risk level by judge after a court hearing: Level 1 low risk of re-offense ; Level 2 medium risk of re-offenseand Level 3 high risk of re-offense.
Such listing shall be utilized for notification of such organizations in disseminating such information on level three sex offenders under this paragraph. Although information can be found on Level 1 sex offenders by calling the above listed phone number, law prohibits the release of addresses for Level 1 sex offenders.
New York State Sex Offender Registry The New York State Sex Offender Registry helps protect our families and communities by requiring sex offenders to register, and providing this information to law enforcement and the public. The subdirectory shall have sex offender listings categorized by county and zip code.
This directory now posts multiple photographs of registered sex offenders, as they become available, to provide New Yorkers with additional information to keep their families safe.
